Neither were easy for me. The first required, in my mind and spirit, a leap of faith, a clear and certain choice to trust in a process I didn’t understand and a higher power I understood even less. Sure, the reality of the unmanageability of my life seems like it should have made for an easy choice, but it was still not easy to trade the known for the unknown. And the second choice, a willingness to do the work of change, is a choice I make every day. I suspect that may be true for as long as I live, that each morning I will be presented with a choice—to grow or to shrink back into the disease.
