“One poor chap committed suicide in my home. He could not, or would not, see our way of life. There is, however, a vast amount of fun about it all. I suppose some would be shocked at our seeming worldliness and levity. But just underneath there is deadly earnestness.” Page 16 — At every meeting and each time we read one of our stories, we see this near incomprehensible contrast. Before recovery, in active alcoholism, we face the very real prospect of death, or, perhaps worse, of continuing to live in the bondage of selfishness and alcohol. But there is also hope. There is also freedom. There is also the very real chance of being reborn, of recovering, of life.
