The newcomer gets thirty days or ninety days and maybe works a few of the steps. But they don’t change. And they drink again. It’s inevitable, for we are absolutely powerless over alcohol until and unless we experience a spiritual awakening. “He failed to enlarge his spiritual life.” He didn’t do the work. So, he drank. This is what we do. We are alcoholic, so we drink.
