“We will not regret the past nor wish to shut the door on it.” Page 83 — I’ve lived much of my life driven by shame, by expectations, and by the need to follow the rules set by society and the leaders in my life. It’s a recipe for regret. Guilt is a good emotion for it flags us when we’re living outside our values. Guilt prompts us to change and grow. But shame and regret? They are tools of self-centered fear, of an ego run amok. We don’t forget the past for it is a great aid in helping others, and a good reminder to whence we came. But neither do we regret it, for we are healing and learning to forgive, both others and ourselves.
Help one; save two. Happy Wednesday!
