“What I had learned of alcoholism did not occur to me at all. I knew from that moment that I had an alcoholic mind. I saw that will power and self-knowledge would not help in those strange mental blank spots.” Page 42 — Our curious and insidious lapses of memory about the unmanageability wrought by our disease have the power to lead us back to a drink. And as we know, one drink most always leads to more and a return to the hell of active alcoholism. The solution? Twelve Steps. When we do the work, as outlined in our steps, we are granted clarity of thought and the Power to not take that first drink. If we do the work today and every day, we needn’t return to hell.
