“What seemed at first a flimsy reed, has proved to be the loving and powerful hand of God. A new life has been given us or, if you prefer, ‘a design for living’ that really works.” Page 28 — “Loving and powerful…” When we seek and discover and experiment, with openness, with willingness, some new conception of God, we begin to discover that all our old ideas (or many of them) were false. This was not easy for our old beliefs were, for better or worse, our means of somehow surviving. But we learned in the first step that to merely survive was not enough. Our lives were unmanageable. We needed to find another way. A “loving and powerful” God? Perhaps. And “perhaps” was enough. The possibility was enough. We could then move forward to Step Three.
