“When we look back, we realize that the things which came to us when we put ourselves in God’s hands were better than anything we could have planned.” Page 100 — All I really wanted at first was to not hurt so bad all the time, to not live in constant fear and despair. When I learned and accepted I needed to stop drinking entirely, I was willing. I worked the steps. I continue working them. And beyond not feeling miserable, I’ve received so much more: peace of mind; self-respect; purpose, in serving other alcoholics, and fulfillment, true happiness, in living that purpose. I have received the gifts of sanity, spiritual awareness, emotional health, and all my material needs are more than met. And it all began with a choice to follow “a few simple rules.”
