If hundreds of experiences have shown him that one drink means another debacle with all its attendant suffering and humiliation, why is it he takes that one drink?” Page 22 — Why, why, why? How many times did I ask that question the morning after? Too many to count over several decades. And yet, in the thick of the insanity, I could not see beyond my self-centeredness and realize that I had a real problem with alcohol. Why? Short answer: I am an alcoholic.
