“You will be bound to them with new and wonderful ties, for you will escape disaster together and you will commence shoulder to shoulder your common journey.” Pages 152-153 — Recovery doesn’t seem to work well in solitude. I’ve tried it, and failed, many times. I still have a tendency to want to solve my own problems and to be self-reliant, but that’s clearly counter to what we experience as we live the steps of recovery. I don’t have the power to fix myself or my own problems. I need God and I need others in order to live a full and happy life. Sure, some time in solitude is good, but a complete life is not lived alone, centered on only self. Self-centeredness is death to an alcoholic like me.
