“…being perhaps fatally ill, does he want to get well? You ask, because many alcoholics, being warped and drugged, do not want to quit. But does he? Will he take every necessary step, submit to anything to get well, to stop drinking forever?” Page 142 — The gift of desperation is only a gift—is only effective—when we become authentically willing to both stop and to do the work required to keep us stopped. Stopping drinking is easy, for an hour, or an afternoon, or even a few days sometimes, but to stop drinking “for good and all” requires some work. Daily work.
